Shootin’

g19.jpgJonah just pointed out a story on Cobb’s site about his recent trip to a shooting range in Torrance. I sold all my guns when I moved to Chicago because they have some pretty insane laws regarding that kind of thing, but I used to drive out of the city limits to a range pretty regularly. LA is much better about that, and I’ve heard rumors of a great range downtown, but haven’t ever found it. Anyone know of a good range nearby?

Never been there, but it’s probably LA Gun Club. I’m not
    sure if they’re still open:

LA Gun Club Indoor Pistol Range, (213) 612-0931
1375 East 6th St., Los Angeles, CA 90021
    Hours: Monday – Thursday, 4pm to 11pm, Friday – Sunday, 11am to 11pm
15 lanes at 50 feet, rental guns available, free safety instruction for beginners

  2. LA gun club still exists…and its fun. Pretty ridiculous…you walk in, point at which gun you want, and they just hand it to you with a box of ammo. Of course…they are strapped at the time, and a much better shot than you. Anyway, reasonable prices…and fun.

Oh that’s awesome news. What’s the procedure for bringing your own iron? If one were to walk in with, say, a pistol that wasn’t exactly legally registered, is that the sort of thing that they check? Or can you just come in and shoot with anything?

Don’t know about LA Gun Club, but most ranges (all the ones I’ve been to around here) don’t check for that sort of thing. Make sure it’s not loaded, and no clips are loaded. Most won’t let you fire steel jacketed rounds. You can call in and ask what their policy is.

One place you might want to check out if you’re firing something with a little more oomph (they allow up to 50BMG, but no steel jacket or core) is the Angeles Shooting Ranges off the 210. They’re an outdoor range and you can fire all sorts of stuff out there. http://www.angelesranges.com/ It’s kind of scary that they have to specifically tell people that they don’t allow tracers, though.

Haven’t had an opportunity to shoot out there, but I’ve been by to check it out. They’ve got a competition skeet range and places for pistols and rifles. I think they have one night a week where you can do rapid fire, too, though I’m not sure.
