This Wednesday, January 6, Fred Sablan (Goon Moon) and Jeordie White (Nine Inch Nails, A Perfect Circle, Goon Moon, Marilyn Manson) are DJing at the Bronson Bar from 10:00pm – 2:00am with cheap drink specials until 11:00pm.
Wednesdays are always a great night at the Bronson Bar if you like rock music (“only good stuff,” as Fred always says), no cover charge and people you actually want to hang out with. Pleasantly unusual for a bar in Hollywood, I say.
The Bronson Bar is not actually the name of the bar as far as I know. I think it’s just called The Bar, but people refer to it as the Bronson Bar, obviously because it’s located on Sunset at Bronson. The neon sign on the outside just says “cocktails” or “bar” or something like that. Anyway, don’t expect to see a sign that says, “Bronson Bar” out front, you got it? Now go rock out.

Rock! Roll! Rides! Racks (guns AND girls’)! The annual Hootenanny festival’s a celebration of balls-out rock: rockabilly, psychobilly, swingbilly (ok, I made that up)–a musical smackdown of epic proportions involving quite a lot of pomaded pompadours, cuffed blue jeans, pinup beauties & candy-apple-red devil cars.
Monterrey, Mexico’s biggest synth-rock beat-driven danceaholics (that would be Kinky) come to the Fonda tomorrow night with Mexican Dubwiser and Chico Sonido for one hell of a show. I saw these guys for the first time two or three years ago at a Detour Festival downtown and they stole the whole show out from under Bloc Party, The Teddybears & even Perry Farrell. This is a don’t-miss show. Wear your dancing shoes.
Wanna go? Leave a comment telling me why you love the band sooooo much. We’ll randomly pick a few winners to get a pair of tickets.
Everybody’s fave local-band-making-good hits the stage at the Fonda tomorrow night for what’s sure to be a fantastic hometown show. Want free tickets? The Event is well-known for promoting the Silver Lake music scene and often name-checks their other favorite local bands when they’re performing. Which is admirable and if you’re in a band you should do it too, because nothing gives you more cred than giving cred where cred is due. So tell me your favorite local bands who you think should hit the big time, and we’ll randomly pick some winners to get pairs of tix gratis. Info on the show is here.
Wacky rock-humorists Eagles Of Death Metal will be bringing the noise, and the funk, this Wednesday along with charming locals the Living Things. Wanna go? It should be a really fun show. We’ve got a few tickets to give away–just add a comment telling me your favorite EODM song and why you love it so. We’ll get back to a couple winners & send you with a pal.
Here’s all the info on the show, in case you’d like to buy tickets and don’t have the GUTS to try to win tickets from us. Pansies.
EDIT: The venue for this show has been changed to the El Rey from the Fonda, in case any of you bought tix to the original Fonda show. Also the openers have changed: Mr. Grainger couldn’t make it, but AWOL will be in his place.)
It’s impossible to not dig the hummable tunes from Islands, tweaked with poppy melodies and calypso tones, country twangs and hip-hop grooves (prolly drawn on from their time working with Busdriver). The former Unicorns dudes have decamped their late band (can unicorns ever last? we didn’t think so) but formed something fabulous in its stead.
We’ve got tic-tic-tickets to give away! Just answer below, in the comments, this question (be sure to put your contact email in there!!!):
If you could go to any island on the planet, which would it be and why?
Winners get a pair of tix courtesy of Goldenvoice, whom we clearly & obviously are gay for.
