Looking for a break from the rhetoric and vitriol of the election season? If so be in Old Pasadena Sunday 10/23 3PMish for the silliness that is the Running of the Clowns. Yes, the parody of the running of the bulls with funny clowns is taking place next Sunday in Old Town Pasadena. After the fun and excitement in the alleys and byways of Old Pasadena the crew will meet up for debriefing at Lucky Baldwins.
Want to be a runner or a clown? Rules are simple Dress in white with a big bold Red sash as a runner. Be a funny lovable clown and you can join in the fun that way. Full dossier can be found on GuerilLA Facebook page.
Parking in Old Town is kind of a bummer and expensive when you find it so consider using the Metro Gold Line and taking it to Memorial Station…the official location of the start of the Running of the Clowns.
Video by me from the first running of the clowns in 2014.
40+ runners and a handful of clowns chasing them wound through the alleyway and streets of Old Town Pasadena Sunday. I had a ball videoing and photoing it all. The official video to follow. To join in the fun with future events visit Gueril-LA.com
*Running of the Clowns to you who don’t know how to use google translate. Its today. 3PM in the streets and alleys of Old Town Pasadena. Its a parody of the running of the bulls in Spain, only with Clowns so no animals are hurt. I’m not running this year…I’ll be photo and videoing it.
What I can share is that if you want to run be at the Memorial Park Station on the Gold Line prior to 3 PM. Dress all in white with a big red sash just like the bull runners do. When the bull horn sounds prepare to run with the others followed by seriously silly and happy clowns. There are breaks where you’ll walk to catch your breath and safely cross streets. The mile or so loop will end with you buying your own pizza and beer at 800 Degrees Pizza at Colorado and Fair Oaks.
If you just want to witness the fun and silliness just be on Colorado Blvd, between Fair Oaks and Delacy St sometime around 3PM and wait for the runner and clowns to come by and cheer them on.
I can tell you its a ton of fun. I did it as a runner last year along with my daughter. Ending at the now defunct Jake’s basement bar. ITs really a lot of silliness and comraderie…how bad can that be?
Yup, this Sunday as promised was the Concorso de Ferrari in Old Town Pasadena. It was a most excellent show. A Ferrari for every budget from 40K fixers for sale to a one of a kind 15M model. And everything in between. Making a token appearance to offset the legion of La Ferrari was a Saleen S7. Even Maserati, the bastard stepchild of Ferrari, was there with new cars under a tent from a local dealer. Not to be out done, totally non-Italian Aston Martin was present with its own tent as well. Supercar stars were alligned in Old Town this weekend. Continue reading “Concorso de Ferrari 2015 in Pasadena…its a wrap”
Ha…my sore feet and aching body tell me two things. I had way too much fun yesterday and I need to get in better shape if I’m gonna continue these sorts of escapades. What did I do you may ask? Well, I was a runner at the first ever Running of the Clowns in Old Town Pasadena. This video is the unofficial done by me version. I have pic from it as well in a flickr album.
The official video is in need of a sound track. Anyone know of a guitarist who could do a flamenco version of “Send in the Clowns”? If so drop me a note and I’ll hook you up with the author of the official video.
I’m sorry the uploader doesn’t work for me…if it did I’d have a snazzy pic for you from the GLA Improv facebook page to share with you. This is going to be a really fun event run through the alleys of Old Town Pasadena.
As a Runner you don’t have to be in that great of shape. The furthest we sprint at any given time is a block. You are to dress as the runners at the Running of the Bulls do…white pants, shirts and shoes with a red bandana.
If you choose a clown you have to be a happy friendly clown. Not like “It” or “John Wayne Gacy”. Costume materials are cheap and plentiful at the Dollar Store and 99Cent only stores.
The Mission is simple. We all meet at the Sierra Madre Villa station of the Gold Line before 2PM. Load your TAP card or buy RT fare totalling 3.50 for round trip. At that point we will be briefed and grouped…runners in one car and clowns in another. Catch a train to the Memorial Park Station by Holly Street and there the fun begins. Full details on FB.
