What has 18 legs, 7 nationalities, 4 percussionists, and an accordian? Gogol Bordello that’s what. They’re playing tonight and tomorrow night at the Mayan, and we’ve got a pair of tickets to give away to a lucky reader.
Gogol Bordello’s magical gypsy punk music first really hit my radar when I saw Wristcutters. GB provides much of the soundtrack for the movie, and the Mikal character in the movie is modeled after Eugene Hütz, Gogol Bordello’s front man (who also has a lead role in Everything Is Illuminated). I’ve seen them live twice since then and I can tell you they put on an amazing show. Between the Russian violinist, the rangy Ukrainian front man, bouncy Ecuadoran MC, and the punk rock cheerleader percussionists, Gogol Bordello is like a microcosm of New York (including the hot sweatiness). It was worth the trip to Ventura for me, but this time, you don’t even have to drive out of town and we can hook you up. Just post a “pretty please” comment below (make sure to supply contact information) and one of you will be chosen randomly.
