Hot Dog Death March High Fashion

11:43 am in Classic Eats, Food & Drink, LA bloggers by lucindamichele

hotdogfriendsThe LA Hot Dog Death March is just a few days away, and we’ve got your t-shirts, temporary tattoos, and attitude.

Ryan at losanjealous does not endorse it and will be praying for our survival.

Maria & Mike at Franklin Avenue think we’re trying to kill you.

Even Kevin Roderick mentioned us over at LA Observed (although he egregiously omitted Julia, the 1st half of the planning committee).

So. Are you coming? Are you willing to RISK IT ALL for GLORY?! Details are here.

I stopped by Oki-Dog yesterday for a little reconnaissance. Photos coming soon.

A Very Special Classic Eats: Hot Dog Death March

10:31 am in Classic Eats, Events, Food & Drink, History, Hollywood by Julia Frey

victoryordeathdogcolor2Saturday June 13 at 3pm we will commence the Classic Eats Event you have all been waiting for–HOT DOG DEATH MARCH!

The March begins at Pinks where we will have trivia contests and other fun things to do and discuss. Step two on our journey will be Oki-Dog. You’ve secretly wanted to go here ever since you read Jonathan Gold’s take on it in his book Counter Intelligence. You haven’t read it? Click here. Okay, now you are ready to try it. Last but never least we will wind up at Skooby’s on Hollywood Blvd. If there were ever a more appropriate place to throw up, Hollywood Blvd seems like it. But no one is going to hurl, I know you are all better than that.

Part of the conversation will be about Pink’s Vs. Skooby’s. This turf war is almost as hot and fiery as “where does the East/West side start” debate. Will the issue be resolved on June 13? You’ll have to join us to find out.

Oh and there will be t-shirts.

Grab your Tums and tighten up your panties. This is Hot Dog Death March.

Classic Eats #5 Follow Up

5:51 pm in Classic Eats, Food & Drink, History, Hollywood by Julia Frey

cocktailsmussoLast Saturday night was Classic Eats #5: Old Hollywood Cocktails. The gang started at Musso and Frank with cocktails and some snacks, then we headed slightly west and south to Formosa for a few more cocktails and some crazy Lobster Mac and Cheese!

Thanks to all the usual suspects who came along, such a great group we have going on! Thanks also to the newbies and occasional Classic Eaters for joining in the fun. We started at 5 (most of us) and said our last good-byes at 11pm! I could have stayed and talked for another hour.

Don’t forget to mark your calendar on June 13 for A Very Special Classic Eats: Hot Dog Death March

A few more pics and a menu mystery after the jump.

classiceats1So you’ve been seeing these posts about Classic Eats and you’ve seen some photos of all the good fun and good food (and drinks) we have. But have you come out with us yet? Can I entice you with a little video that Lucinda Michele made of our adventures on Classic Eats 3: Tiki Ti and Taix?   Check it out:

If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing. Get Flash Player from Adobe.

Now you want to join us! Here is the plan for this Saturday May 2:
5:00pm meet at Musso and Frank in the bar for a cocktail(s). If you want to eat there too, rock on!
6:30pm to Formosa for additional cocktails and to eat appetizers or dinner, whichever anyone likes. I made a reservation at 6:30 for about 12 people in the train car section under my name.  The nice woman, Rebecca, said that since we were coming so early, seating shouldn’t be an issue.

Musso & Frank Grill
6667 Hollywood Blvd. (A few blocks east of Highland)

The Formosa Cafe
7156 Santa Monica Blvd. (Just west of La Brea)

Thanks for voting everyone and we’ll see you there!

Classic Eats #5: Get Your Vote on!

1:30 pm in Classic Eats, Food & Drink, History by Julia Frey

classiceats1

The votes are pouring in for Classic Eats #5 (May 2). Currently Classic Hollywood Cocktails are winning by a good lead followed by Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles. I thought since Cinco De Mayo was a few days after Classic Eats that Lucy’s El Adobe or El Cholo would be up there. Mob rule is a tricky thing.

Click here for the ballot if you haven’t voted yet. The survey will close on Monday April 27.

Click through past the jump for details on all candidates on the ballot. There is a new contestant on the ballot as well.

classiceats1Classic Eats #4 was a great time, thanks again to all who came. Classic Eats #5 is on May 2 and the voting begins now.

We will need to use an external poll again so please click here for the ballot. As ever, the time will be determined once a location is chosen. We tend to try and time the event early on a Saturday evening so you can come to Classic Eats then move on to your main evening event.

You now know that Hot Dog Death March will be a very special episode of Classic Eats on June 13. That very special website is here.

Click through past the jump for details on all candidates on the ballot. There is a new contestant on the ballot as well.

Classic Eats #5: Save The Date

12:30 pm in Announcements, Classic Eats, Food & Drink, History by Julia Frey

classiceatsClassic Eats #5 is coming up quick – Saturday May 2. I will put a poll up in a day or two so the voting can commence. I’m feeling a bit Cinco De Mayo so perhaps Lucy’s El Adobe or El Cholo will win?  But I can’t command the will of the people.

Please also don’t forget to mark your calendars for the Hot Dog Death March on June 13th. This is a Classic Eats Special Event and it’s going to be huge. Just like my belly will be after the event!

Classic Eats #4: We Pie’d and We Burger’d

12:29 pm in Classic Eats, Food & Drink, History by Julia Frey

Mmmmm, Burger.

Mmmmm, Burger.

We ate Pie. We ate Burger. Not necessarily in that order. Unless you were originally from Germany. (More on that later.)

Fourteen people converged on Pie ‘N Burger in Pasadena last evening to celebrate Classic Eats #4. There were the CE Regulars: Mr. Hooks, Jeff and Donna, The Other Jeff, myself, and Matt Mason. Then more Metblogs writers came along, Lulu of the Lotus Eaters, Travis and Jodi. There were also significant others and there were the Germans. We even had one Metblog lurker who came out in public to join us.

We crowded the back “section” of P ‘N B and had our fill of yummy classic burger food. Skip past the jump for more photos and fun.

Classic Eats #4: Pasadena Bound!

7:12 am in Classic Eats, Food & Drink, History by Julia Frey

classiceats2You made your voices heard! We are going to Pasadena for Pie ‘N Burger this Saturday, April 4th. I’ve never been there (hence this series!) so I don’t know how big it is. I’m thinking if we get the usual turnout – 10 to 15 people – it will be crowded with just us, so let’s get there at 5:30pm.

Pie ‘n Burger
913 E. California Blvd.
Pasadena, CA 91106
(They have much more than just Pie ‘N Burger on the menu)

Classic Hollywood Cocktails ran a very close second. Don’t forget, if you didn’t get what you voted for this time, it will be on the ballot again for next time.

And if you feel there was any election tampering, click past the jump to see the results.

Looking forward to it!
