DIVEBOMB – A NIGHT FOR PEOPLE WHO LIKE MUSIC

HEY LOSERS, USERS, SCUMBAGS, ABUSERS, HEADBANGERS, EARTHDOGS, SKATEDOGS, GOTHS, ROCKERS, METALHEADS, FUCK-UPS, DIRT MERCHANTS, ACID CASUALITIES, DEGENERATES, HIPPIES, GEEKS, SCOUNDRELZ, FRUITCAKES, DROPOUTS, SLUGS, SLOBS, PUNKS, CRACKHEADS, PILL-POPPERS, JERKS, STONERS, SLUTS, HAIR FARMERS, SPEED FREAKS, E-HEADS, CRUSTIES, RAVERS, ADDICTS, AND WEIRDOS….. Now there is a night for people who like music. That’s right every Wednesday (starting on January 5th 2005) at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood we’re throwing a FREE / ALL AGES night with cheap drinks called DIVEBOMB. A couple bands will play live every week as well as guest DJS. To start things off on January 5th, divebomb will be having a party for WIRES ON FIRE to celebrate the official release of their record “Homewrecker” (which hits stores on January 18th or you can buy it now at Amoeba in Hollywood or from the bands live shows). 30 free copies of “Homewrecker” will be given out at the show and the guest DJ will be Keith Morris (Circle Jerks/Black Flag). Don’t blow it, show up. (7021 Hollywood Blvd. Suite 209 Hollywood , CA 90028 323 463 0204)

AUTOLUX – “FUTURE PERFECT”

AUTOLUXLos Angelesís own, AUTOLUX, have just released their full-length debut ìFuture Perfectî and I must tell you ITíS SMOKING! I rarely say this kind of thing, but I strongly URGE you to go out and buy this record, because in my opinion it is one of this yearís BEST. This band is special. And not the short bus special. Their sound falls somewhere between My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth (and Iím talking about the Sonic Youth records where they play SONGS not the ones where theyíre banging spoons together), Can, and The Jesus and Mary Chain (from whom I think theyíve borrowed the amazing ability of marrying their lovely shrieking noise, insanely loud and glorious feedback, with their lush and beautiful male/female harmonies). They have a very 90ís arty vibe, write great pop songs that love to stick in your head, and theyíre even better live. Just make sure you bring your earplugs cuz theyíre fucking LOUD. And I’m talking about the “good kind of loud” that you can feel right there in the square of your chest! And their drummer kills it! Not to sound like a total misogynist, but their drummer Carla, is by far the best female drummer I have ever seen. Hell, sheís better than most guy drummers out there. As for the other members, Greg (guitar/vox) was in that band Failure whom you might have heard before. If youíre a guitar geek, youíll realize that his TONES ARE SIIIIICK! And Eugene (bass/vox) was in the Guns Ní Roses video ìNovember Rainî playing violin and wrote the instrumental Beastie Boyís song ìEugene¥s Lamentî (among other things like playing in that punk band DFL). Another interesting (and totally LA) fact about this band is they are on Red Ink Records, which is an imprint of Columbia and owned by The Coen Brothers. Yeah The Coen Brothers that made The Big Lebowski among plenty of other great movies. I wonder if THE DUDE is into Autolux? Check out their atypical EPK by clicking HERE and their website by clicking HERE. They playing Cinespace in Hollywood on Tuesday by the way.

ALL TOMORROW’S PARTIES THIS WEEKEND IN THE LBC

Whoa, I can’t believe that I’m actually excited for a music festival and I’m in America. Granted, it’s not a totally “SOLID” line up, at least it’s better than Coachella 2004 was, Lollapalooza 2004 wasn’t, The Warped Tour ever was, Ozzfest, or any other American music festival for that matter. American’s just don’t know how to rock man. So until they let me book my own fucking festival of 100% radical ass kicking bands, this ATP gig will have to do. Plus they told me I’d get free tickets if I wrote this thing… Anyhoo, this weekend, down in the LBC (if you’re not a Snoop Dogg fan, that stands for Long Beach California biotch), they’re throwing a big two day rock show called “ALL TOMORROW’S PARTIES” (yeah, it’s named after The Velvet Underground song) amd Modest Mouse picked all the bands this time around (Slint’s picking bands for the London ATP sometime next year). On Saturday November 6th you can see: LOU REED (Yeah he’s old and weird now but it’s still Lou Reed and you know he’s gonna fuck up some Velvet songs), THE BLACK HEART PROCESSION, WHITE MAGIC, LUNGFISH, J MASCIS + THE FOG, MODEST MOUSE, & THE BUFF MEDWAYS FEATURING BILLY CHILDISH as well as EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY, THE WALKMEN, WOLF PARADE, SUFJAN STEVENS, WHITE HASSLE, & WILLY MASON . And on Sunday November 7th you can see: THE CRAMPS, THE SHINS, STEPHEN MALKMUS AND THE JICKS, BUILT TO SPILL, EAGLES OF DEATH METAL, CONSTANTINES, THE FLAMING LIPS as well as LOVE AS LAUGHTER, THOSE PEABODYS, RADAR BROTHERS, MAGIC MAGICIANS, & PEACHES. Is anyone else excited about this? Am I alone here? Who else is going? Speak up Lou Reed fans. Oh, go check out the ATP website by clicking HERE.

Elvis Costello playing for free at Amoeba Hollywood today at 6PM

In case you missed the “secret” announcement today, Elvis Costello will be playing a live in-store performance (and signing/petting if you’re into that sort of shit) today (10/19) at 6:00pm PST. The FREE show (FREE being the key word for me) will be one of only three US public appearances this year. If you don’t know where Amoeba is, you can find it at 6400 Sunset Blvd in Hollywood. For more info on the Elvis that’s alive, check out his little website at http://www.elviscostello.com/.
