Yup, Pacific Plate Brewery is gonna put Monrovia on the map of microbrewers. Great beers with a twist…flavors kicked up a notch with real fruit in the case of the Mango IPA. My favorite however was the Cardamom Ginger Saison, a wonderfully spicy beer.
Pacific Plate is an interesting brewery. They make craft beers with a twist as you might have guessed. They start with whole grains they mill themselves. They add flavor pairings that compliment each other to create very different beers than you typically find on the shelves of your local groc. Each batch is brewed by the barrel, not by the bajillion barrels that gives them better control over the final product. They even grow their own yeast to maintain the quality of their beer. All good stuff.
They are all friends from college and from the L.A. area. One of the brewers, Steven Cardenas has his degree in biology from San Diego State . He is the brain behind all of the brews and grower of their yeast. He gave us a short tour of their brewery and all the quality control thingy’s they have in place.
Pacific Plate Brewery has a tasting room that is open afternoons and evening. I don’t have exact deets on when they are open, but you can call the Tap Room for details at 626-239-8456. I was there for the Grand Opening on Friday and it was a lot of fun. They have beer flights you can purchase for a nominal amount that gives you a sampling of their wares. You can also order the beer by the glass, pint and growler to go.
