Win Tickets To See Bruce Cockburn At The El Rey!

Bruce Cockburn is coming to the El Rey in Los Angeles next week in support of his 31st studio album, Small Source of Comfort. Thanks to our friends at Goldenvoice, Blogging.LA has your free tickets. Read on…

Cockburn is one of my favorite recording artists, but when I mention him friends are often unfamiliar. He has a pretty solid fan base here in the U.S., but north of the border, in his native Canada, Cockburn is a legend.  In a career spanning four decades he has received 13 Junos (Canadian Grammys,) seven honorary doctorates, he’s in the Canadian Music Hall Of Fame, and next month will be featured on a postage stamp issued by Canada Post.

Cockburn often tours solo, but this time out his deep, soulful lyrics and virtuoso guitar playing will be backed up by a full band. Opening the show will be violinist Jenny Scheinman, also featured on Small Source of Comfort. (Samples of the new album can be heard at that link, by the way.)

It seems Bruce Cockburn only passes through Los Angeles every few years, so don’t miss this rare opportunity to see a truly fantastic performance.

Want to join me at the El Rey next Tuesday night? I’ve got a few pairs of tickets for lucky B.LA readers. Just leave a note in the comments section below telling me why you want to see this show. Winners will be chosen at my whim and notified via email.

  1. I don’t know him, but if you says he’s good, Burns, I’m interested. I’m sold on it from the pic alone.

  2. Would love to see Bruce. Seen him at least 20 times over the years but a bit straped for cash this time around. Been a fan of his since high school 25 years ago. I grew up in Montreal and BC is much more popular north of the border. Also – The man is a true virtuoso guitar player and would love to see some of the new instrumentals in a live setting. Hope to get a pair! thanks – Scott

  3. The last time I saw Bruce Cockburn was at the Ventura Theater at least 15 years ago. It was a double bill with Richard Thompson. I thought I’d died and gone to heaven. it is, indeed, a rare treat to see this amazing artist in L.A. and I hope to be one of the lucky ones to win a pair o’tickets.

  4. I hope its not too late, I would love to see Bruce Cockburn. I was one of those who didn’t know him until my boyfriend, now husband turned me on to him. Plus the El Rey is just down the street from work, so it would be the perfect evening out, good music and good people.

  5. Hey Burns!,
Thanks again for the tickets. Really enjoyed the show. Met Bruce after the show. Was very cool. Bruce has still got it and Jenny was great. Nice meeting you. Take it easy – Scott

  6. Scott–

Great to meet you, too. So glad you guys enjoyed the show. And, a fantastic show it was; really spectacular.

Look forward to seeing you guys again at other B.LA events. Also, congratulations on your new freedom, but I think I might’ve waited for the big lottery win, rather than telling the boss to piss off upon securing the concert tickets. Eh…either way, good show, huh?
