I’m not religious at all, but that’s a beautiful shot. My favorite downtown gem is the Eastern Bldg clock. At night, it’s just spectacular.

The Jesus Saves sign is one of my favorite hidden treasures of downtown. It originated with the Church of the Open Door whose building, completed in 1916 was located on Hope Street next to the Central Library. As dj ernie pearl said, it was torn down in 1985, but on the ground floor of the high rise built in its place you’ll find a small room inside which a video plays detailing the history of the site. The room’s door never closes.

As a kid I remember the sign on top of a building near the 110 fwy. Sometime in the 80′s the building that it sat on was going to be demolished along with the sign. The late Dr. Gene Scott bought the sign and had it moved to his ministries at The United Artist Building. It’s been there since
