Actually it's the same dynamic as athletes--most of the work is done by the ball of the foot. If you've ever seen a runner's shoe, there is no heel. The best runners in the animal world are always (technically) 'on their toes'. I used to be a cocktail waitress and worked in 2 1/2 to 3" heels...and many's the time I ran to catch a bus (I lived in SF at the time). Tight skirts are more of a hindrance than high heels. And since Gillian Anderson was probably in very good condition athletically, running would come easily. Running in high heels?
