Is the teachers union or "someone" setting up an Adopt-A-Teacher program? Or Adopt-A-Classroom? I know we already pay taxes, but clearly that isn't enough to keep art, music or books in the classroom. I don't want more taxes, but if the kids need crayons and paper, I'm happy to help them stock up. I'm sure there are other people who feel the same. I don't know if that's overly simplistic, but this whole thing is so frustrating and hearing about teachers having to take side jobs and fund their own programs out of their own money (which is not nearly what they are worth to begin). Maybe a page on the school website of things they need?

How bad is it? I saw a young man at the Mountain/210 off ramp, dressed in suit and tie with a sign asking for help with tuition as he lost his job as a waiter. I have two sets of dumpster divers that work my street, now the night before trash pick up going through recyclables and actually arguing who got there first for the pickin's. Fruit sellers are everywhere and bigger numbers than before (I'm tempted to open up my back yard and just let them pick all the excess I have for free so they can turn a bigger profit).

I can't recall it this bad since the Carter <strike>recession</strike> depression of the early 80's.
