no disrespect, but it's a tragedy when any cyclist gets hit. how can we bring more attention to the 2nd st. / glendale / park corridor? it's a vital cycling route, and awareness needs to be given.

Thanks for reporting on this in your usual eloquent and passionate way, Will. That part of Glendale Blvd is just a few blocks from where I live and I make that turn frequently - it could have been me or any number of my fellow cyclists.

It's not easy to put my feelings into a brief comment here because the thought of losing Roadblock is something I've pushed out of my head as too much to bear - not only is the guy is a bastion of our community who has contributed in so many ways, but is also someone I have ridden along side of many times and count as a friend. He's one of a kind.

Wow lucky he survived to tell you the story.

As a side bar when it comes to medical bills since he was hit by a car, specifically a hit and run auto, if he has uninsured motorist coverage on his auto policy he should submit the claim to them. Before anyone balks when I was a claims manager my unit handled a couple hundred auto vs bicyclist where our insured was the bicyclist who was hit by a car that either fled, was uninsured or underinsured. In short use the coverage if its available to help with the bills.

Well they might not nab the driver but they at least have a clue what car it was that hit him.

Riding a bike makes you feel very vulnerable at times, I wish good luck to all the cyclists out there because they really need a lot of it. If you are a driver or a passenger make sure you give all cyclists the breaks they need when they share the road with you.

Man, as soon as I read the headline, I was dreading what I was going to read, and my stomach did flip flops as soon as I saw Roadblock's name. I've never ridden with Roadblock, but he's someone I've met through the Bike Forum, and at city council meetings fighting for the rights of cyclists. And someone I've come to respect.

This just shows that it can happen to anyone, even the most skilled riders. Burns is right though. If it wasn't a hit and run, LAPD probably would have ticketed him for backing into the car.

Thanks God he's okay — though how that's possible after something like that is a miracle in itself.

Given that description and nearly complete plate, it should be short work for LAPD to track down the driver. Are they on that, or are they looking for three independent witnesses (inside the sedan) to say that Roadblock hit the car? http://bit.ly/10odSm
