forcor beat me to it. On Franklin Avenue’s Great LA Walk last November we passed that Santa Monica Boulevard building (on the south side of the street a bit west of La Cienega) and there’s a plaque there memorializing it as the place the Doors laid down “LA Woman.”

“LA Woman” was recorded at the Doors’ offices on Santa Monica Blvd., which in recent years was the restaurant Benvenuto Cafe and is now the brand new restaurant “Mexico”. Jim lived at the Alta Cienega Motel just half a block up La Cienega for 2 years during that time; tourists can stay in his room for only $70 a night. It’s a great deal for a true taste of (West) Hollywood lore. You can pretend Jim wrote “Riders on the Storm” right there in bed, and he may well have.
