The next bout at the Doll Factory between San Diego Derby Dolls’ “The Swarm” and L.A.’s own “Varsity Brawlers” is happening next Saturday night (2/28,) and we’ve got free tickets.
If you weren’t at last month’s season opener, you missed an incredible double-overtime win by the Tough Cookies. It was one of the most exciting nights in L.A. sports in recent memory (I’m looking at you, Kings. How ’bout a win at home?)
In addition to the excitement on the track, there will also be a half-time performance by Barrio Tiger, as well as the usual vendor village featuring Alex’s Bar, gourmet cookies and lots of other cool stuff. They’ve even got Hot Dog On A Stick!
You don’t want to miss this one, so follow me past the jump to find out how you can win tickets and a Derby Dolls t-shirt.

In case you’re unfamiliar with roller derby, all of the skaters have names like Tara Armov, Gori Spelling, Paris Killton, Tae Kwon Ho, and Ivanna Knockemova.
Make up your roller derby name and leave it in the comments. The best name, chosen arbitrarily by me, wins a pair of tickets and the Derby Dolls t-shirt of your choice. If you come up with more than one, multiple entries are encouraged. Make sure I’ve got your email address so I can notify the winner (it should be listed with your MetBlogs registration.) Contest ends Tuesday, February 24 at 5:00pm pst.
Don’t want to take a chance on winning the tickets? You can purchase tickets from the Derby Dolls website. Don’t wait ’til the day of the event. The last one sold out, and this one will, too.
Also, don’t forget, this event coincides with Classic Eats again this month, so come out early to join us for the eats and drinks, then follow me to the Doll Factory for the roller derby action.
oh this is so cool!! i looove the derby dolls! my bf took me a to a game and i wanted to be one. i would love to win these tickets! i dont have a clever name yet.
oh fark…why is is I have basketball games in far away places with the cool stuff is going on.
I just turned 21 on Tuesday and I completely forgot that I can FINALLY go to one of these now!
If I was a girl, I’d go with Sarah Impalin’.
Women on women violence? Hellz yeah.
My name would have to be Pain Austen.
These are great! Love the political and literary themes. Keep ’em coming.
Goria Vanderkill!
how about polly bearer…:)
I collect squished pennies so how about Penny Squish Her?
Ooooh hooo! Barrio Tiger rocks! And they are very very sexy. I say this with great certainty.
Love the Roller Derby. “Maiden China” or “Frida Banger”
These are all fantastic. More, more!
I should point out that while the L.A. Derby Dolls are all women, the names you all submit don’t necessarily have to be female. For instance, the male referees have names like Roger Assaultrey, Oliver Clothesoff, Julius Pleasar, and Al Cpwn3d.
To that end, Mario Speedwagon, it would seem that you already have a roller derby name.
Yeah Derby! Gal Machino, Skirty Harry, and Ophelia Tearpart. (brain is just waking)
Male, you say?
Mikill Jacksoff
Cosmo Maimer! BOOM.
Derby! Derby! Derby! My name would be JUDY BOOM! After a particularly good slam, I’d drop a copy of Are You There God, It’s Me Margaret on their helmet.
Could also be J.K. GROWLING. No broom on the rink though.
Bloody Holly!
Great contest! I would love to be The Librarian. :-) I also liked Scarlett ExterminateHer and Jane Ire.
Bob Killin’
Harry Twatter!
Kobe Tyrant! (if I ref’ed)
Okay, you guys are killing me! These are all really great, and I don’t know how I’m going to pick a winner. Contest goes on until 5pm pst, so keep posting. I’ll be tied up at 5:00 (and through the evening; are you coming to Booze Clues?,) so the winner will probably be notified tomorrow.
Ms Cretin!
or, Ms Creant, i think that’s what i meant yeah
This was great everybody. Thanks! The winner has been notified, and I would encourage everyone to follow that link to buy tickets. This is going to be a blast. I wish I could give consolation prizes and offer to buy everyone a beer at the derby, but I’m just a poor blogger. Come find me in the crowd with your beer, I’ll toast you with mine, and we’ll all have a great time.
