AWESOME.. the more radio stations move to the one true format (can you smell the sarcasm?), the more people will move to SiriusXM and keep that beast afloat. At least there will always be choice there.

Personally, I've switched to listening to podcasts and music via my ipod, so radio is 100% useless for me. The way I see radio (terrestrial and satellite), it's time is limited - just like analog tv.

STEPFORD AIRWAVES... seems like "they" taking away anything with a direct effect on the public. Talk radio made you think, you formed your own opinions whether you agreed or not; it was stimulating your brain more then "pop" music could ever do. Is big brother helping us become mindless robots?
I was a fan of indie, mostly because they brought a sense of individualism to an already conformed media. Now with this news::I will definitely be looking for radio alternatives.

Tom Leykis lost his job?

Awesome!

Leykis really morphed from when he was on KFI--a smart, occasionally "controversial" political talker--to when he was on 97.1--all misogyny, all the time!

Like JC, I miss KLSX. Breakfast with the Beatles with Deirdre O'Donoghue on Sunday mornings was great--I know it's on KLOS now, but it's not the same.

I didn't listen to 97.1. Honestly, I barely listen to radio in L.A. I liked Indie 103 a lot, but couldn't get good reception most of the time.

I might miss it a bit, but I miss KLSX and their no-repeat playlists a lot more.

Oh no, Tom Leykis off the air? Where will my husband get audio soul support? This is terrible!

To be a bit more fair and balanced than my previous (asshole) comment, I should add that the Conway and Steckler made me laugh through many a horrible nighttime commute back in the day. It never felt the same once they replaced Steckler with Whitman. And while I wasn't a fan of 97.1 FM Talk overall, it does upset me to think of all the unemployed folks this format change will create.

This is where Heidi, Frosty & Frank were? Dude, I remember hearing them on my mom’s car radio decades ago when she’d drive me to elementary school in the 80s. But I think the lineup was a little different.
You might be thinking of Jamie, Frosty and Frank, which was simulcast from Denver a lont time ago before it got moved to Star 98.7 (though I don't think it was on in the 80's?). Frosty, Heidi and Frank has only been on 97.1 since 2000, after Frosty and Frank got unceremoniously booted from the Star show in favor of Danny Bonaduce.

But I think the lineup was a little different. It is too bad to see more stations flipping to pop. Ideally, local terrestrial stations could super-serve the locals with *local* music of all stripes--jazz, blues, electronic, pop, alt, indie, rock, etc, all hailing from SoCal--and leave the major international acts to iTunes, Pandora, satellite and HD radio.
