Bert--thanks for the explanation. This sounds like it will be more like the BART, where trains coming through the same station have different destinations.

You think they might rename the trains? It doesn't make much sense to call something the Blue Line if one train is going along the Purple Line track, and another along the Gold Line.

The Downtown Connector was originally supposed to be the continuation of the Blue Line to Pasadena. It would have continued from its present terminus at 7th/Metro Center under downtown to Union Station and onwards to Pasadena, but instead the Gold Line got built, and then extended into East LA. Now the Expo line is happening, so the Downtown Connector is being proposed as a way to allow all the light rail trains from all directions to share a central downtown track. This would permit any train to continue to any destination, so Gold, Blue and Expo trains could share final destinations.

Re: Little Tokyo/Arts District stop - Going back to the whole Mitsuwa closing news and how that may/will negatively affect local Japanese businesses - will there even be a legitimate and worthwhile Little Tokyo left by the time this thing gets built? Might have to rename the stop simply as "Arts District."

Jason, thanks for keeping us up to date on what's going on with the Metro.

I have to admit that I'm still a bit confused on the proposed downtown connector. Here's what it says on their website: "By allowing trains to operate without transfer, the Regional Connector is a critical piece in creating a true transportation network for the region."

Am I reading that correct in thinking that, for example, a Blue Line train originating in Long Beach would take the connector and continue along the Gold Line route? That seems like it could get complicated. At first I assumed it would be a separate line, but the "without transfer" part seems to mean that isn't the case.

Either way, going by the proposed route locations -

- I think going up Main St. from 2nd, and then along Temple is the best option, simply in order to have another station near City Hall (Temple and Main, please) and the court buildings. The Los Angeles Mall, catty-corner from City Hall, is kind of a depressing place, even when all of the workers are out there eating lunch. Having a station there could revitalize it.
