While not perfect, or located close to everybody, there are regular, week(end)ly drop-off S.A.F.E. Collection Centers sprinkled about the county that I've found to be convenient enough to get a lot of junk out of my place. Plus, I can go a bit more randomly, at my leisure. The Glendale locale took a little finding the first time, I recall, just as a heads up.

The frustrating thing about these sorts of events is that the are not convenient enough. When they do them in the SGV they are at best a half hour drive to get there. If the various local govt entities were desirous about recycling the electronics they need to make it as easy as possible.

My suggestion. Monthly or quarterly include 1 trash pick up of only electronic recyclables. That way all one has to do is put their electronics on the curb and be done with it. Time and time again the KISS principle shows the simpler it is the more likely people will follow.
