Great post. Yesterday morning my husband and I decided to visit our local shelter. We had each read an article in the morning paper about the dire situation, abandoned animals due to foreclosures and economic hardships. We saw so many dogs it was shocking. Then, we saw her- a beautiful ( well she will be) Welsh Terrier. She is 9 months old, with matted hair and a terrific spirit. She will become my 4th "child" on Monday. The shelter won't let us take her home until she gets spayed.

From what we know, she was dropped at the shelter with a note that said the owners were moving and couldn't keep her. She'll join our family:two tweenage boys, and an 8 year old Westie. She will have to sleep on our bed, and live in our home, nap on the couches, and eat whenever she wants to. Oh, and she will have to put up with me all day as I am a housewife. I sure do hope that doesn't bother her too much.

Aw, that is so great, but Boks is right: people have to be ready and forward-thinking when looking to adopt a pet. As soon as I have a big enough yard and can afford it, I'm totally going to find a pup to adopt.
