Its scary. The down turn is hop-skotchy. Stores here in my corner are hit and miss in terms of better or worse than last year. Oddly restaurants are better and the more unique not-duplicated-in-a-chain retailers are having a better year than last. Unfortunately the latter are really the minority in Old Town. Too many are 20-75% off entire store. The small business guys need a break and business as if we lose them we are going to have serious problems.

They didn't say the last day they'd be opeb, but here's the e-mail:

<em>Looks like we're going to be another casualty of the economy! Many
things have been marked down in the store, and right after Christmas
everything will be an additional 20% off.
Prices will continue to go down from there, depending on how long we
stay open. We might try sharing the space to stay open as a smaller
store. Or if there's anyone interested in taking on the storefront,
you can get a turnkey business for a bargain! The website and Etsy
store will keep going. Thank you to all the great customers that have
made the store last this long!

Terrible news. My wife and I would always stop by Regeneration before having dinner at Fatty's across the street. We'd never leave without buying a little something - we love our Zulu telephone wire basket! - to help keep the store alive. But I guess it was just a matter of time. Too bad, the stuff they had was really neat and notably inexpensive.

One question, though: when is the store's last day? Do you know, Lucinda? I'd like to stop by before they close for good.
