The down turn is hop-skotchy. Stores here in my corner are hit and miss in terms of better or worse than last year. Oddly restaurants are better and the more unique not-duplicated-in-a-chain retailers are having a better year than last. Unfortunately the latter are really the minority in Old Town. Too many are 20-75% off entire store. The small business guys need a break and business as if we lose them we are going to have serious problems. Its scary. The down turn is hop-skotchy. We'd never leave without buying a little something - we love our Zulu telephone wire basket! - to help keep the store alive. But I guess it was just a matter of time. Too bad, the stuff they had was really neat and notably inexpensive. One question, though: when is the store's last day? Do you know, Lucinda? I'd like to stop by before they close for good.
