Consume LA: S & M, tequila and more

SEE: Rick Castro, photographer, filmmaker and owner of Antebellum Gallery, is hosting American Cinematheque’s new Fetish Film Nights, beginning tonight at the Egyptian with a screening of Maitresse, Barbet Schroeder’s NC-17 Karl Lagerfield-garbed S & M tale of the hunter– or in this case, burglar getting captured by the game. Friday, 7:30 PM, $10; Egyptian Theater, 6712 Hollywood Blvd. LA 90028

DRINK: Don Jose Lopez Portillo Anejo Tequila. Lately, George W. Bush has been scrambling to build a legacy beyond being an international punchline. He might want to follow the example of former Mexico President Jose Lopez Portillo (1976-1982,) who, after leaving office, created his own eponymous brand of tequila.

100% Agave Tequilana Azul Weber, aged in French oak barrels for 18 months, sold in handmade bottles with fine wood lids laser-engraved with Portillo’s initials. Complex, full flavor, smooth, very satisfying and much better than PatrĂ³n. Hail to the chief! $44.95, available at Fireside Cellars wine shop (next to Wild Oats), 1421 Montana Ave., Santa Monica 90403 (Thanks to VF.)

LISTEN: Milosh III; Finally, new product from MIlosh, the Canada-based chill electronica maestro. Apple iTunes has an exclusive in the US, with their typical low-quality, copy-protected 128kbps crap-ola version. If you can wait (I couldn’t) for Amazon to get it, the sound quality will be twice as good (256kbps) and it might be a buck or two cheaper. Or download it directly from IK7 Records in Berlin, Los Angeles’ sister city!

SEE: Spider Bites. The iconoclastic Theater of Note presents 11 short plays, monologues and poems about love and its many pitfalls by acclaimed LA-based playwright and poet Jacqueline Wright. Fri./Sat./Sun. through Oct. 4th; $22/$18 students, seniors; Theater of Note, 1517 Cahuenga Blvd., LA 90028

GO OUT: Let’s Independent, Radio Free Silver Lake‘s monthly Tuesday night of attitudinal indie/alt/shut-up rock (best monthly music night in town) returns next week to Boardners with The Poor Excuses, Manhattan Murder Mystery and Tenlons Fort. Tues. Sept. 16th, 9:00 PM, $6; Boardners, 1652 N. Cherokee LA 90028
