Sunset Junction update

August 21, 2008 at 3:05 am in Events, Music

Sam Moore, the legendary “Soul Man” who was half of Sam and Dave, will perform at the Sunset Junction Street Festival on Saturday in place of the late Isaac Hayes, who passed away last week. Hayes co-wrote, with David Porter, under the name the Soul Children, two of the duo’s biggest hits during their early tenure at Stax Records; “Soul Man” and “Hold on, I’m Comin’.”

Also, Saturday’s big deal bands are Broken Social Scene and Fullerton’s own Cold War Kids, who have a new album coming out next month. Not to be missed.

Sunday’s big draw, for me anyway, is the Black Keys. Check schedule for times.

You can still get $15 tickets at Tsunami Cafe on Sunset in Silver Lake through Thursday– that’s today. And maybe tomorrow too, guy there wasn’t sure when I popped in yesterday. Otherwise, it’s $20 day of at the gate.
