Another Store Bites the Dust

lnt.jpgI noticed the Linens ‘n Things on Riverside & Woodman in Sherman Oaks is toast. Huge signs are advertising the store’s closing, with everything on sale. If you need some towels and stuff, get your shop on.

Normally, I don’t think much about store closings, since most businesses don’t make it anyway. But, this is a major retailer. Hunting around online, I found that the entire chain had been in trouble:

Hurt by the credit crunch and sagging housing market, home furnishings retailer Linens ‘n Things has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Then comes the news that Starbucks plans to close 600 stores across the U.S. Eek. Can we call this a recession now?

Just curious, how are those mom & pop stores doing out there?
