I was working in Woodland Hills during that fire, and remember the smoke in the air and the ashes on my car and the view from the Top o’ Topanga, when I’d drive home after dark – but I was always too far away to actually see the flames, or that bright crawl of sparks across the hills. That’s beautiful and terrifying.
