For decades the LAPD and the city/state legislatures has tried to stop gang violence through increased penalties and increased police presence and while there have been some instances where this had reduced crime it hasn't come close to stopping it. If we ever hope to see meaningful change we need to address the root causes. I can't prove this, but I'm willing to bet that the majority of readers voting for Gang Violence today have never been directly affected by gang violence. While I think it's a natural to surmise that violence is worse than ignorance (it may in fact be worse), when ignorance continues to contribute to the violence it's time to reconsider what is really worse for the city.
