  1. Well maybe they called for bulky item pickup and you just happened to see it the few hours it spent waiting on the curb. Or I may be being overly optimistic again.

  2. Again, this is a common sight in Hollywood. There’s a spot right in front of where I live that is a regular dumping spot. Some stuff does disappear soon thereafter, others will sit for a couple weeks.

    People are scum.

  3. I swear this isn’t meant as a dig, so please don’t read it that way, but is this really newsworthy in your ‘hood? This is a multiple-times-a-week occurrence where I am, and for most of the surrounding area. Hell, I once had somebody leave a stack of four mattresses and two boxsprings in front of my house in the middle of the day! IMHO, illegal dumping is one of the most scandalously overlooked problems in Los Angeles.

As for 3-1-1, I may be wrong, but I don’t think that people that live in multi-unit housing (i.e., apartments) can call 3-1-1 for bulky item pickup because they’re serviced by private contractors rather than city sanitation. I think that’s why it’s such a huge problem.

  4. I’m not sure if it’s 311, but I live in a sizable apartment building in Burbank and the city handles our bulky item pickups. We just call and they tell us what day to leave it on the curb for them to grab.

Burbank is its own city, with its own sanitation department.

Hm. Well I wonder why our leasing company and the property across the street pay Crown Disposal to come empty the dumpsters, then. The city of Burbank handles the bulky items for our apartments even though we pay someone else to get our regular trash.

  7. At least it was only a lightly worn mattress, maybe it fell off a passing truck? right? ever optomistic? Maybe its there for the kidlets to nap on during their trek home from school? Never know.

Thankfully that is a rarity in my hood. Sofa’s and dinette sets seem to be the preferred items.

  8. Spencer, no dig taken, valid question…we don’t get quite as many couches and mattresses in my immediate hood so to post the 64 worst with couch/mattress dumping and mere moments later to see one dumped, I had to post. Much like the dog poo the other day.

    Faboomama is feeding my paranoia!

    lolz

  9. Yes, 311 works even in areas that have private trash pickup. We use it in Hollywood quite often. Unfortunately, not enough neighbors think to make the call, and just dump their crap and let someone else deal with it.
