Is the Kodak Theatre being considered as a venue for the 24th annual MTV Video Music Awards in early September?
A listing of upcoming road closures in a neighborhood council email had the following item:
UNDER REVIEW – DETAILS ARE BEING DEVELOPED
2008 MTV Video Music Awards
Late August to early September 2008
Streets and sidewalks adjacent to the Hollywood and Highland complex
The last time the event was held in Los Angeles was in 1998 at the Universal Amphitheatre. I remember like it was yesterday… mainly because I escorted Winona Ryder to the restroom before the doors opened (I was a production assistant on the show).
The 3,300 Kodak, however, seems like an unusual choice as opposed to other venues, including the 6,000 seat Shrine that MTV has used in recent years for the Movie Awards. Since 2000, the VMAs have generally opted for larger venues, including Radio City Music Hall (5,933 seats), the Metropolitan Opera House (3,995 seats), and the American Airlines Arena in Miami (5,000 – 20,000 seats).
