“We’re all gonna die!!!”

I received a couple different text messages from friends telling me some “zombies” or “goths” had assembled at the corner of Franklin and Highland during rush hour Tuesday afternoon. I grabbed my camera and over.

So, who were these Mad Max style protesters taunting drivers with screaming, signs warnings of foreboding death, cracking whips, and raising swords high in the air?

Jihaadists? Anarachists? Activists? Answers and more pics after the jump…

Sorry to disappoint, but it was merely a publicity stunt to promote the new film “Doomsday,” which, by what I gather from the trailer, is essentially “Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome” meets “Escape from New York.” But set in London. I have high hopes for the film based on the director’s last film, “The Descent,” which is one of only a handful of quality horror films to come out in the past couple years.

According to the promo kids I talked to (unfortunately, they all seemed like well behaved young’ns when they weren’t “in character”) they have done similar promotions before, most notably for “Across the Universe.” For the Beatles music infused film they dressed up at hippies and had impromptu “be-ins” around Los Angeles.

  1. Lol….it reminds me of the time Lucy and Ethel dressed up in foil with springy things on their heads on top the empire state building as martians for some alleged movie promo.

Mad Max was a great series, I really liked thunderdome but then again that Tina Turner as Aunty Entity always did it for me.

Nice post, I like that the live promo in the streets isn’t dead…just promo’d better on the ‘net.
