As for the escalators and trains on the Metro, yes, people here are in dire need of a thrashing of common sense. I get the stink-eye on a daily basis because I use the escalator as something that helps me move faster, not just move. Some people think its a ride, others are just ignorant, but many of them seem to think that we who wish to move rather than be moved, are out of line. And on exiting trains, I have had to blare “Yer not gettin’ on until we get out!” a number of times. I cannot understand why some people think they are going to get on and not let us off. Chipped more than a few shoulders since I have been here, when the warning shot fails to split the sheep crowded at the door ready to push in before the doors are even finished opening.
