That black plume of smoke you may have seen coming from downtown L.A. this morning was the result of a semi-trailer carrying a load of tires colliding with another vehicle and catching fire. Only minor injuries were reported, although the fire required over 60 of LAFD’s bravest to tackle.

LAist’s Callie Miller was on scene with camera, capturing some dramatic shots showing the fire not only engulfing the vehicles but also leaping onto nearby palm trees. (coverage — photo gallery)
