R.I.P Groucho

Groucho is dead now for 30 years.

I never saw him perform live, but there was something about him when I was growing up. I had a ventriloquist’s dummy in his likeness, a poster of the Marx Brothers, and the smiling eyes of those around me when I did my impression of him.

I appreciate his wit and cutting use of language even more as an adult and writer.

He’s buried here in LA.

  1. “You wouldn’t happen to have a baboon in your pocket?”

My husband and I say this line often.

The Marx brothers rocked/changed my world when I was about 11. I ADORE them and have read all of their autobiographies and other books. “Harpo Speaks” is my favorite of all.

  2. i guess you can’t use karats in your postings.

i “heart” the marx brothers. i especially love watching chico and harpo playing music for the children in ‘night at the opera’

even my e-mail address is groucho-themed.
