  1. Man, this is really sad news.

Though I found Hal’s commentaries increasingly out of touch and a little silly in the last few years, I feel like I lost a beloved relative today.

Hal Fishman was a huge part of my childhood, and I feel like a part of that is gone. I hope he passed quietly and peacefully, surrounded by people who loved him.

  2. He was the last local anchor I had any respect for. After KTLA sold out to popularity and went entertainews, I stopped watching local news.

This morning KPCC had a pretty good piece about Hal and how he was behind the scenes (hint: It wasn’t pretty). Unfortunately, I can’t find any reference to it on their web site.

That’s actually what I was listening to when I posted this. It was certainly interesting to hear.

  4. Hal Fishman was one of the few Los Angeles news veterans left. Look around newsrooms now, and most are transplants. God bless him.

  5. Drewb, they basically said he was a royal pain in the ass. Apparently he hated having to share airtime with anybody, especially co-anchors, and even limited the length of other reporters pieces because people were tuning in to see Hal, and not some lowly reporter.

That said, they all praised him as a newsman.
