It’s the first Friday of the month, which means it’s time once again for Ride-Arc. As a cyclist here in LA who enjoys the late night cluster rides, I have to say that the Ride-Arc events are my absolute favorite each month. I actually planned my recent trip to Japan around first Fridays to make sure I wouldn’t miss this one. What is this one? Well it’s the tour you’ve been waiting for, of course. Full details after the jump.
Oh, August – that month where countless Americans head to Europe on vacation, and countless Europeans take the entire month off so they don’t have to deal with Americans all month long.
This month, RIDE-Arc is taking a decidedly lighter theme compared to last month’s heavy weight that dug deep.
We’re taking a much needed tour through the the key locales and tourist targets that draw millions from around the world to our vast sprawling megalopolis. Sure, you might be thinking: I live here now, and I’d never go to these places! Yes, but you should. You are in Los Angeles – one of the most famous cities in the world. Inevitably, you’ll have foreign guests from all over the world – Europeans, peoples from Asia, South America, Australia, and 3rd World Countries like Alabama, Mississippi, and Arkansas and North Dakota.
And when they come here, and expect you to ‘show them around’ – are you going to be stuck with no clue about where to go or what to talk about?
NOT ANYMORE! THANKS TO RIDE-ARC!!
We’ll take you to tourist hot spots!
Celebrity dead bodies!
“Famous” movie locations!
Former Star’s Homes!
Former Living Star’s Homes!
Watering Holes for the Vanity Driven Masses!
People who came out here to make it big!
And eventually, with the help of a surgeon, they made it big. Really big.**
**and now find employment in the backyards of various homes in the San Pornando Valley.
And what do they get out of it? A lung full of SMOG, that’s what – genuine Los Angeles SMOG. Hey, it’s what makes our sunsets so beautiful – and your guests can take a liter or two of it with them. For Free!! It’s our city’s way of saying “Thanks, and Come Again.”
RIDE-info: Roughly 25 miles, maybe more, maybe less. Like much of hollywood, parts of this ride may end up on the cutting room floor because it didn’t show up to the director’s trailer.
Post-test ride we will be posting up and e-mailing out a Tour De France style route elevation guide – we may have a climb & decent of about 600 ft. FYI.
Bring your camera and be the tourist. You might as well – you won’t be alone. WE WILL BE TAKING GROUP SHOTS THROUGHOUT THE RIDE!! and sending them to distant relatives who will send us one-piece velvet pajamas for the Holidays. Kinky?
Weather: Best thing about LA’s Summer Heat?? The night rides are amazingly perfect.
THE MEETING PLACE FOR THIS RIDE IS AT THE PARKING LOT OF THE MAYFAIR MARKET AT THE CORNER OF FRANKLIN & BRONSON 9 PM – WE RIDE BY 9:30
PLEASE BRING TUBES FOR YOUR OWN BICYCLE. ONLY YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PROVIDING THE TUBES FOR YOUR PARTICULAR BICYCLE.
