The New Beverly is making me feel like doin’ the Truffle Shuffle

Somehow this midsummer lineup at the New Beverly makes me nostalgic for those summers when the greatest way to end a day hopping from the waterslides to the arcade to miniature golf was a trip to the movies.

July 22 & 23 (double bill)
Gremlins and Howard the Duck
(bag on Howard all you want – in what other movie will you ever see duck nipples?)

July 28 – (midnight screening)
They Live

July 29, 30, 31 (double bill)
The Goonies and Back to the Future

And as usual, this is just the tip of the iceberg – they have additional themed nights featuring the Coen Brothers, David Lynch, Soderbergh, John Carpenter, cheesy horror films featuring dwarves, teen sex comedies, grindhouse films, and notable, from August 12 – 14 Edgar Wright’s “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz” back to back.

Full lineup here.

  1. I worked in a movie theater for 3 weeks just after I graduated from high school. (I had a job during the day as well.) The first two weeks were “Rambo: First Blood Part II” (oh boy) and then “Goonies.” I still have my Cyndi Lauper 45 of the theme song.

  2. Oh man oh man…wish I wasn’t working… Goonies would be a most awesome birthday movie! Plus They Live? Plus Howard The Duck?…um…okay…maybe not.

  3. Actually, I just made a public Google Calendar with shows from the New Bev, the Nuart and the Rialto.

It’s not comprehensive; I’m lazy and only put the movies I was interested in.

    But check it out!
