Pravda: Multimedia Mix & Mash @ Disney Hall

http://blogging.la/archives/images/2007/05/shadowofstalin-thumb.jpgI don’t get cranked up about much, but the tickets I just bought for Pravda are burning a hole in my pocket.

The lineup for this show – a 5-hour multimedia pan-cultural mashup at Disney Hall with the likes of Amon Tobin, DJ Spooky, Cut Chemist, Peanut Butter Wolf and a 10-piece theremin orchestra – has me so jazzed I can’t see straight. It’s part of a larger concert cycle presented by the L.A. Phil. called Shadow of Stalin, an exploration of Stalinism’s impact on Russian music.

Hurry up and grab tickets – they’re going fast. General admission tix for $42 will get you the balcony and the right- and left-orchestra on back as of this writing.

Plus a special appearance by a 10-piece Theremin Orchestra (Steven M. Martin, conductor)

Join an extraordinary line-up of DJs, VJs, artists, and live musicians as they dissect the sounds, sights, and philosophies of the Stalinist-era Soviet Union. Exploding the oppression and exposing the truth, these progressive artists will re-mix the music of Shostakovich, Prokofiev, and Mosolov, and visuals from films including Battleship Potemkin, Alexander Nevsky, and more. Don’t miss this world premiere, one-of-a-kind late night exploration of Russian culture from the past to the present.
