Bobby Flay gets “Pink’d”

pinks.jpgLast night, Food Network aired the episode of Bobby Flay’s “Throwdown” where he challenged Pinks Hot Dogs to see who could not only make the better dog, but also who could serve the most dogs in an hour. The show was surprisingly fun, mostly due to the energy of the Pinks family who participated in the challenge.

Eating LA’s Pat Saperstein was one of the judges, and she wrote about the experience a couple months ago, even though she withheld who the winner ultimately, as I also will. However, I gotta say that after watching I was tempted to drive down LaBrea and grab a dog.

Bobby Flay’s “Nacho Dog” also looked delicious, and it so happens the recipe is listed on the Food Network site. It includes homemade guacamole and salsa, plus some crunch from using tortilla chips as a topping.

The episode airs again next Thursday, May 24th at 10pm, or check out the Food Network site for subsequent listings.

  1. of course bobby fay made a better dog than stinks. oh, mean pinks. since it’s the most over-hyped P.O.S in LA

that family’s lucky that crap shack is still around

  2. Thank gawd for Tivo…I’ll have to rewind as I took a nap half way through to find out who won.
Pink’s is at least fun, not the best dog around but then again its a food item I never give much thought to and totally happy about it as well.

  3. Oki-Dog! Okay, maybe not.

I would not be surprised to learn that Bobby Flay beat Pink’s (if that’s what happened), but they’re BOTH overrated.

  4. Maybe I don’t get out much, but Bobby Flay isn’t overrated in my book. Having had the pleasure of the MESA Grill I can say it exceeded my expectations on so many levels. I’d agreed to “overhyped” as his media people and FoodTV keep his name out there all the time.
Pinks…its an OK hotdog, better than chains and about the same as what COSTCO doles out.
