Well, show me the way to the next whisey bar

seven_grand.jpgJust in case you were wondering… I had a killer time last night. Our first stop was at the sketchy yet charming Shatto Lanes 39 (which Sean actually just wrote about here) for my friend Sam Velde‘s surprise birthday bash. Happy Birthday douche bag! I didn’t even know the place existed but it does… over on 4th and Vermont. We hung out for the big “surprise!”, some birthday cake, a few games of bowling, five or six high fives, a little Guns N’ Roses pinball (the only bummer is it’s Gilby Clark Illusions era), one game of Ms. Pac Man (you can go check out my initials as the high score if you’re into that sort of thing), a few shots of chilled Crown Royal and a whole bunch of beers. After leaving Shatto, we then headed downtown to check out a new whiskey bar called SEVEN GRAND. Man-OH-man does this place rule!

Seven Grand is my new favorite bar in Los Angeles!

(more after the jump dudes and dudettes)

They get an A + from me on the atmosphere and the way it’s decorated. Extremely classy! It totally reminded me of “Eyes Wide Shut” with the dark Wood paneling, rich leather, plaid carpeting, low lighting (a must for a bar), high ceilings & taxidermy. I was pretty sure that at any moment a bunch of naked chicks with masks were going to come out and start getting freaky. It never happened but it would have been a lot cooler if it did.

The bartender with the weekend mohawk gave me the low down… They have large slow-melting ice cubes – “It’s meant to chill, but not dilute.” (too bad I usually take my whiskey neat), 125 different whiskeys on the menu (which means I’ve got about 115 new whiskeys to try out) that include bourbon, Scotch, and Irish, Canadian and Japanese whiskeys that range from $5 to $120 a shot, bottled beers (they were outta Stella Artois though when I was there) and 18 beers on tap including CHIMAY, Boddington’s, Fat Tire, Guinness and Blue Moon. Oh and If you bring a bummer chick who doesn’t drink whiskey they’ve got cocktails for that fun Vacuum. The only bummer is I can see myself going broke because of this place.

  1. Dang it TK, ya beat me to it. I pass by this place walking between the Blue Line and Broadway whenever I mass-transit during the week and I was gonna duck in there for a taste now that it’s finally open.

  2. Stopped by last week too, loved it. Blogged about it as well. And it’s more than a shot, or you can call it a large shot with a little more poured on top. Pool table is free, but don’t plan on playing at the busier times. I prefer Wed night…

  3. They give you what my Uncle Scott calls “MAN SIZE SHOTS”. I’ll be stopping by sometime during the week and blowing more of my money this week for sure. By the way, whats up with the subway stopping at 1am? Who’s stupid idea was that?
