So is it another widespread urban legend that, right before Trading Places, she had breast implants to counter this perception? And made a big deal of having them featured in the film?

I was raised believing this as “fact.”

Captain Awesome, I haven’t seen any documentation of Dr Drew debunking this myth. (That doesn’t mean he didn’t, I just couldn’t find it.)

Has anyone else heard this Loveline episode in question?

This urban legend was debunked years ago by Dr. Drew. Anyone remember that episode of Loveline, when someone called and spoke about it?

Dr. Drew is close friends with one of her main physicians in the medical community. She was born with one extra “male” chromosome. Which only means she has a fairly “hairless” body.

Nothing in Joz’s post calls Jamie Lee Curtis’s kindness, graciousness or professionalism into question. The series is about urban legends of Los Angeles, and, however unfortunately for Ms. Curtis, this is one of the most widely believed. Whether or not we write about it, it’s not going away just because she’s a really nice person. I wish more people would write about topics like this with Joz’s even-handedness and restraint.

Hi there, sorry we didn’t communicate last night, but thanks for the email.

I just had to comment on this blog because I’ve met Jamie Lee a couple of times and am always impressed by her kindness, graciousness, and total professionalism. She is not only a gifted actress, but also an accomplished author and speaker.

I would hope you never become so famous that something that should be kept private and not for public consumption (whether it’s true or not) is brought to light for mockery to plague you your whole life.

I understand your statement at the end that says who cares, but why bring it up at all then? There’s so many other more interesting topics in the world – find them! You seem like a bright person. Can’t wait to read what you write next…

I remember being a naive youngster in one of my first classes at a local community college and my anatomy professor outlined the JLC story to illustrate some genetics concept he was teaching us. He stated it as fact, and as received directly from someone at some hospital he named and I don’t remember. This was before I took any sociology/anthro courses and was still unfamiliar with the whole FOF idea. I’ve always remembered that. It sticks out as a big disappointing moment. How could a “professor” (a category of people I so looked up to!) spread a rumor like that to an entire auditorium-size classroom. The horror!
