For 12 days beginning January 20 Silver Lake’s Monkeyhouse Toys & Art Gallery will be hosting “Wishing Well: A Benefit For Ava Cipriani,” a gallery show whose proceeds will be going toward paying down the medical bills drowning Ava’s family as the three-year-old girl fights the stage-four pediatric neuroblastoma cancer she was diagnosed with last April.
From Ava’s MySpace page:
Because not many children are struck with this illness, major drug companies are not willing to pour millions of dollars into research and cures for it. One medication, Zofran, that she needs for nausea, costs $10 a pill and that is after insurance! She needs that four times a day, every day when she has treatment. Another drug, that boosts her white blood cell count, costs $1,500 per unit and she has that four times a day as well. The medical expenses are very overwhelming for us as you can imagine.
An army of artists are contributing pieces ranging from custom hand-painted art toys, paintings, limited-edition prints, urban vinyl, handmade plush toys, photographs, sketches and signed celebrity memorabilia. A list of the contributors runs after the jump, and a reception at Monkeyhouse is scheduled for January 20, from 4 – 8 p.m.
