Los Angeles Plays Itself, Starting Today

Run, do not walk, to the Egyptian Theater today through Sunday for Los Angeles Plays Itself. This is the movie that started my love affair with the city I never expected to even like. This is the movie that opened up Los Angeles’ facets and angles, that showed me all the perspectives of the city possible in a hundred years of film. This movie is one of my inspirations to write for blogging.la.

Showtimes are Friday, November 24 – 7:30 PM, Sat., Nov. 25 – 2 PM, 5:30 PM & 9 PM and Sunday, Nov. 26 – 2:00 PM & 5:30 PM. Hey, if you’re still in town, you’re probably having a slow weekend with everyone gone anyways – why not go out and see a documentary that really captures the city?

  1. It’s brilliant, though quite long. Luckily UCI’s library has what I think is a bootleg copy on videotape. Thom Anderson, the filmmaker, teaches at CalArts–I wonder if he owns the rights to the video, because this is really something that I’d want for my own collection.
