Paris Hilton, Suicide Girls, and Dragonfly… Oh My!

Last night was the Suicide Girls 5th Anniversary Party at Dragonfly on Santa Monica. Caryn and I went and met up with Xeni and danah who had already secured a spot at the bar by the time we arrived. I’d never been to the Dragonfly before, which I’m sure is a huge shock to most of you, but the place seemed pretty small when we walked in and even more so an hour or two in when it started getting really packed. I guess small is what you want for some aspects of it, but not being big having dudes with half unbuttons shirts dishing out high fives and calling each other “bra” invading my personal space has never been my thing so I for me, not so much. OK, that’s a pretty ugly picutre I just painted and it wasn’t that bad at all, but there were some pretty creepy dudes doing a lot of staring.

DSC03105.jpgWe got there just as the comedy aspect of the evening was getting going and in hind sight it might have been better to show up a little later. I’m being harsh again, I’m sure the first few guys were very funny in their own right but I’m of the opinion that stand up comedy usually sucks in a big way, and dudes making jokes about being stoned and vibrators just makes me want to go to sleep. Sarah Silverman on the other hand ruled. I’d seen her movie Jesus is Magic before so I knew what to expect and wasn’t disappointed. Folks, it’s all about the delivery. Laughing at your own joke (like the first few dudes) is not funny, delivering a joke and making it look like you aren’t even sure if it’s a joke or not, that’s good stuff.

Next up where the Suicide Girls themselves, followed by The Panic Channel. Of course no one is paying any attention to that because apparently Paris Hilton showed up, had some drinks, and drove home. Or started to until she got busted for DUI. Luckily we didn’t see her when we were there. Or rather, Caryn didn’t see her. I might have seen her and not even known it, other than that she’s some rich girl who is famous for doing nothing I don’t know much about her, and couldn’t tell the difference between her, her sister, or any of those Simpson chicks that are always on the cover of US.

  1. Nice and nicely done, Bonner. :)

Snark is the way to go here. I fucking hate the dragonfly. It’s trashy. And not in a charming way.

SG really shoulda gone with a smarter venue.
