Great (Cheap) Mexican Food

No controversy here, just great Mexican food, served up by the nicest family you’ll ever meet, and at amazingly low prices. The place is tiny but it’s well worth trying to find it.

Order the Jalopy Special (chilequiles with machaca and eggs) and walk away happy!

And for you health nuts, try the shrimp and cheese wrapped in bacon and deep fried. Ah-ooo-gah.

Head over to El Carpintero (The Woodpecker, Gringos):
4109 1/2 West Olive
(across from Warner Bros, near the B of A)
Burbank
818/566/4093

They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, and also do food to go.

  1. I drive by all the time and have never stopped, though I’ve always wanted to. That intersection isn’t the friendliest around. Is there a place to park close by?

  2. Parking is indeed a drag there. There’s street parking in the neighborhood though, and it’s worth a little driving.

  3. Coolness, that’s like nearly walking distance from where I work (on Olive), but I’ve never been there. Time to add it to the rotation!

  4. Sounds yummy….thanks for the tip.

Another great place is Salsa & Beer (formerly Papas & Beer) in Van Nuys…6740 White Oak Blvd @ Van Owen.

Very cheap yet deliciously authentic food and the service is fast and friendly.
