Friedman’s Survivor Story

I’m sure plenty of industry people around here have read Josh Friedman’s blog, the brilliantly titled I Find Your Lack of Faith Disturbing. If you’re not reading it, you should be. It’s not just some damn funny shiz, it’s some very well-written damn funny shiz. I’ve always found it interesting that his blog writing is so comedic, given that his writing credits so far are pretty standard, and somewhat humourless, Hollywood fare. Anyway, Josh has been absent for awhile, following a bout with a case of uber-food poisoning and, after forgetting about it for awhile, I finally checked his blog again today to find that he’s back. And he’s got a pretty good excuse for not picking up the blog pen sooner…it’s called cancer.

Incredibly, fate has seen fit to hand Friedman a mulligan. Unfortunately, it doesn’t happen often enough. Like plenty of other people, I know another person experiencing a much less positive outcome with something similar. Friedman’s story is a good lesson that anything can happen, and he writes about his ordeal with insight and humility and vulnerability. It’s a good reminder that maybe you should go kiss your wife or your husband or your boyfriend or your mom and, if they’re important to you, let them know. Hell, it’s Friday. Take the rest of the day off and go to the beach. Enjoy this beautiful SoCal lifestyle while you still can.
