B.la Mystery Photo Contest, Vol. 2, No. 2

This week’s edition of the B.la Mystery Photo Contest again goes with the same digitwist as last week. Instead of calling all to eyedee an actual snap of somewhere around town taken by yours very truly, I fired up my PS2 and carjacked various rides in the entirely unredeemable and morally bankrupt (not to forget: totally kickass) “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas” just so that I could cruise around to capture some various landmarks around the video game versions of this town (while trying to catch on the radio our very own Wil Wheaton whose voice-acting skills are put to use throughout the game as a roving talk radio reporter Richard Burns).

WTF’s up with the gamer angle? Well, because it’s a tie-in, jeez! See the winner of this week’s contest gets two tickets to experience Video Games Live at the Hollywood Bowl, July 6. What is Video Games Live? VGL is the first major U.S. video game music concert tour. Think of it as a concert, theatrical stage show, and interactive video game all wrapped into one eye-popping extravaganza featuring musical performances, video and specially designed laser and light sequences showcasing†over 50 different games in a wide variety of styles.

Clue: Sure there’s a storyline to advance with the successful completion of each task but I put all that linear progression crap on hold while I drove around destroying everything. In the scene above I’ve managed to end up near this historic park (hideously renovated by some landscape crapitect in the early ’90s) and landmark hotel somehow still alive and on the run despite having every cop in town on my ass… all because I ran over some people and shot some others. Innocent bystanders my ass. But I digress. Click the image for a larger version.

Rules: Post a comment (deadline is Friday, June 24 at noon) correctly identifying the park, the hotel (and if you’re an over-achiever lay on me the name of the skyscraper in the background) pictured in the crappy screenshot at the top of this post and you’ll be entered into the pool from which one winner will be randomly chosen and announced Friday June 24. Post only once. Multiple comments will be deleted and the entrant DQ’d. Don’t have a clue where it is? Poaching from other entrants is allowed Hey, I’m after quantity not quality. The winner will receive two tickets to Video Games Live July 6 at the Hollywood Bowl along with an exclusive VGL poster. A runner-up will be selected to receive a VGL poster as well. Winners and runners-up will be contacted via the email address they provide with their entry so make sure it’s legit otherwise you’ll be DQ’d. And if any a yooz calls me Francis? I’ll kill ya. Next contest posted June 28 with winners announced July 1.

  1. I know that that is Pershing Square,
and in the background is the millenium Biltmore Hotel, I believe

  2. Gregg is correct. That is Pershing Square, the Millenium Biltmore Hotel (which should be on the left, not dead center), and the building is the U.S. Bank tower.

  3. If it means getting a couple of tix to VGL, I’ll happily poach!

Pershing Square / the Millenium Biltmore Hotel

    Are you our ‘big toe’?

  4. Will – I was gonna post the Biltmore and U.S. Bank Tower, but then I saw everyone else already had done so. You gotta stump us with the next one!

  5. Dude, that one is so easy. Pershing Square (where they have the ice skating rink every year), and the Biltmore in the background.

  6. Yup – that particular view would be impossible. I also think anyone saying U.S.Bank over Library Tower should get diqued. Library Tower forever . . . .

I also think that palm tree is a bit of artisitc license . . .

  7. AAAHHHHEEEEEEM: If I can have the attention of all the Darlenes and Marshalls of the world… I’m sssssoooo freaking thrilled that I posted a screenshot that was almost too far beneath your ravishing intellect to waste your precious time identifying. Pffft.

Thus, NEW RULE: The next of y’all that feel that impertinent urge to concur with said Marshalls and Darlenes… you’ll be DQ’d faster than I can say Johannes Gruenthenfurthen…sturm….drang…stein. Just post (or poach) your answer, say thank you very much, and move on like a goodlittlecontestant. Deal?!?
