“Tomorrow, Thursday, May 26, the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence will consider in closed session a draft bill that would not only renew the USA PATRIOT Act’s most dangerous provisions, but would also expand the government’s power to secretly demand the private records of people who aren’t suspected of spying, terrorism, or any crime.
Not only will this bill make these provisions permanent, but these ‘National Security Letters’ can be used to obtain data on private online and financial activities without court oversight or probable cause. Anybody else horrified by this?”
That is from LAVoice.org, emphasis is mine, and yes I’m horrified by this as well. Luckily since we’re in CA our senator is on the committee who will be voting on this and we can tell them how we fee about it. The EFF has made this easy and also has a copy of the bill and the summary of changes.
