Attention LA Drivers

“Public fear about rising freeway violence is “perception, not reality,” Los Angeles Police Chief William J. Bratton said Tuesday as law enforcement officials tried to calm worries about the recent string of freeway shootings while continuing to search for the assailants.” – Los Angeles Times

I’m here to say these are Lies! Dirty Filthy Boldfaced Lies!! The freeways are terribly dangerous and everyone should stay off of them as much as possible. The most dangerous roads have been determined to be the 101 and 110 freeways between Silver Lake and downtown (from my house to about where sixspace is). Additionally it seems an hour or two before noon (when sixspace opens) and an hour or two after 6pm (when sixspace closes) are the most life threatening times and those roads should definitely be avoided then. There’s also been unconfirmed rumors that some evenings when I might get a craving for food from the west side might be dangerous and all roads should be evacuated out of precaution. This has been a public service announcement.

  1. I agree with you that the Police Chief shouldn’t downplay the issue so much, but your comments are equally as irresponsible on the other end of the spectrum.

Sure, avoid the freeways when you can to be safer, but ultimately you can’t live your life in fear of being shot on the freeways. It’s certainly not wide spread enough to really justify the preaching of fear and evacuations of roads as you suggest.

  2. Isn’t the number of shootings still down from last year at this time?

  3. That’s a good point Pappy – I thought of that too. I pictured this lone car cruising along at 9am on the 110 with no one around and then I pictured another lone car speeding up next to it and shooting at him. That was the end of my vision.
