I know this is a pretty crazy request, but does anyone have any idea where I could buy 2,000 Rubix Cubes? Obviously in town and wholesale is more attractive than full price mail order.

Go to a “promotions” company that makes pens and hats and junk for trade shows. As long as you don’t care that they are “Rubik” brand you should get a good price and fair quality.
