Here Comes The Bride With Questions For You

Ok, fans, I’d like your thoughts, opinions and suggestions. I got engaged last month (full proposal details here, if you’re interested) and am in the beginning stages of wedding plans. We’ve been doing site visits, which leads me to ask all of you:

Where was the best So. Cal wedding you ever attended and what made it so great?

  1. One of the best So Cal weddings I attended was about 8 or 9 years ago. It was the second wedding for the groom, but the first for the bride. Because the groom already had 3 kids from a previous marriage, they wanted to make sure that their event was enjoyable for the kids AND adults.

They had a masquerade/costume wedding. The bride got to wear her dream wedding guest, but everyone else (guests and groom included) was in costume. The ceremony was fun, which led into an evening of music and dancing. Kids had their own set of entertainment, including balloon-making clowns, magicians, and a caricaturist.

Now, this is not something that would suit every couple, but the reason this was one of the most memorable weddings wasn’t the amount of fun I had (which was tons), but because this wedding really suit the couple very well. They made sure that everyone felt like they were a part of their celebration (and that it wasn’t just a glorified day for the bride, not that there’s anything wrong with that).

  2. The best SoCal wedding I’ve attended was at the Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. The hotel is beautiful, and the food was head and shoulders above most hotel banquet food. Cocktails were in one beautiful room, which opened up into the Crystal Ballroom, which is spectacular.

I admit I’m very partial to this hotel, it’s a good downtown haunt. It was a great place to hang out when they had a regulation-size pool table in the Gallery Bar. They have bar room-size tables in the Sports Bar, but it just isn’t the same.

  3. Congratulations! Unfortunately I can’t help, because I haven’t attended to any SoCal wedding. However, I’ll be glad to help if you decide to get married in Brazil. Good Luck!

  4. My mom is a florist, and I’ve seen just about every possible wedding spot in the Southland. Drop me an email. Off the top of my head I would really recommend the L.A. Arboretum, for pictures at least (I went there on Valentine’s Day and it was BEAUTIFUL).
