I’m Audi 5000

Sometimes it’s really difficult to find good quality services. Need a doctor? A lawyer? A good mechanic? Your main recourse is the phone book, and if you’re lucky, the person or service in question will have a web presence to help you decide if they’re good. But it’s still hit or miss. And that’s why I turn to you, dear readers, to ask you for what really helps one find a good service – personal recommendations.

You see, I take my precioussss car in to the dealer (yeah, I know) for service. I did this while it was still under warranty because it was just easier, but now that it’s not, I want to take it someplace cheaper for service. The problem is, there aren’t a lot of mechanics who will work on Audis, and of the ones that do, I don’t know which are reputable.

So, I turn to the blogging.la authors and readers with a plea – help me find a good repair shop that can service my Audi and nurse it back to health if it gets sick, preferably without breaking my bank account.

  1. I’m not sure if you’re in the Silver Lake area, but I swear by Long Automotive at 2801 Rowena Ave. (a couple/three blocks east of Hyperion 323/668-0810). He won’t do anything you don’t really need. I asked him to change my sparkplugs and he looked at them and said they don’t need changing (how often does a mechanic do that?). And when I finally got sick of the rattle my worn timing chain made whenever I started my truck up I practically had to beg him to replace it, because to him it was something I should just leave alone as it wasn’t doing any damage other than making a little noise This guy’s good and he and his mechanics do great work at decent prices.

  2. I love, love, love Prestige Coach Craft in Marina Del Rey (http://www.1bodyshop.com/). They earned my business years ago after a different mechanic messed up my car. They’re honest, make you feel like a VIP, and do a fantastic job. Great prices on repairs and tune-ups. The body shop, though, is ridiculously expensive, but well worth it if insurance is paying. Plus, they never scam you just because you’re female.

  3. The members of AudiWorld’s SoCal forum (http://forums.audiworld.com/socal/) are big fans of Euro-Tech Motors. And I imagine the enthusiasts are pretty picky people. Recommendations can be found be searching the forum.

Jose (Master Tech.) at Euro-Tech Motors
    11800 W. Pico Blvd.
    Los Angeles (310)575-9705

  4. I second Jose Davida of Euro-Tech Motors. He’s a certified Audi Master Tech along with a number of Porsche certifications also. He used to be a dealer mechanic who struck it out on his own after putting up with lousy dealer policies and over-charging. Incidently, his shop entrance is on Granville Ave though his address is Pico Blvd.

Might also check G-Motor Imports in Hermosa Beach

  5. I TOO NEED AN AFFORDABLE MECHANIC FOR MY 97 AUDI. I LIVE IN THE SACRAMENTO AREA. IF ANYONE COULD RECOMEND A REPUTABLE MECHANIC, IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECITATED

  6. I also recommend Jose at:

There is an Enterprise rent a car across the street, so if they need to do a lot of work you have a great way to get around.
Jose was great explaining everything about the car (just bought a modified A4) and he gave me a price WAY below what the dealer would have charged. He was very helpfull and just a nice guy. I highly recommend Euto-Tech. I drove way out of my way to go there.
