I can’t confirm this because my phone is working, but we’ve gotten a few e-mails from people in the silverlake/los feliz area saying their phone lines are dead. One person said they called SBC (from a mobile phone I guess?) and were told that a major cable broke and service wouldn’t be repaired until the 24th. Anyone else know anything about this?

I live in Los Feliz off of LF between Riverside and Griffith Park, and I have SBC phone service. This probably makes up for the fact that my street was without power all of last weekend.
I live at Sunset Junction and SBC local is working here……..
We had one of our two phone lines out in Echo Park about a week ago (the line that had voice/DSL on it) and they said it would take two weeks and it was fixed in about a day. This has happened twice, so I bet that is understated.
Verizon says 50,000 customers are without service, and their repair folks are so backed up, it takes over a week to get a technician to show up.
Our phone service in Westwood was out for a week, and we got nothing but excuses from Verizon — state of emergency blah blah blah.
I finally gave up on them and went outside and rewired my own phone. Turned out the problem was at the junction between my house and their wire.
For you do-it-yourselfers out there, the electricity that comes over the phone line is enough to make your fingers numb, but not enough to kill you. I don’t recomend testing the line with your tongue.
Yah, our friend greg and emily have been out of telephone and dsl service since last Thursday. There’s some complication involving a weak telephone pole, live electricty and water. They said the phone company told them it be fixed by tomorrow Tuesday.
I have friends near Melrose and the 101 whose phone service just went down this weekend. Something to do with a problem in one of the canyons. SBC was promising to have it fixed ASAP. We’ll see.
I’m at Silverlake/Sunset. SBC went out yesterday, the respondent said it would be fixed by the 24th (unacceptable), but it was already working when I got home from work today. 24-hours. That’s acceptable.
