“I’ve seen a lot of L.A. and I think it’s also a place of secrets: secret houses, secret lives, secret pleasures. And no one is looking to the outside for verification that what they’re doing is all right.” — Sara, L.A. Story
If you’ve been through Century City lately, you no doubt have noticed the hubbub at the old ABC Entertainment Center, as its dismantling continues apace.
Now, one expects to find strange things in older buildings, and last month, they came across a time capsule, dated to 1971. But this was different than your run-of-the-mill capsule.
First of all, it was at the roof. Most are buried or set into the corner stones at ground level. Second, as the L.A. Times reports, “The 2-by-2 1/2-foot aluminum container resembles a television camera and bears an ABC logo and the words, ‘Corner Stone in the Stars, Sept. 22, 1971.’ Inside are about 15 items, including a bright yellow sweater, a bottle of Martinelli’s apple juice, a warped Andy Williams ‘Moon River’ album, a Screen Actors Guild document signed by Charlton Heston and a program signed by Gregory Peck.”
Funny thing is, nobody can remember putting it there or why it was installed in the first place….
